Animation gives a more lively style of motion, with anticipation, squash stretch, slow in and out, timing, overlapping action.

While motion graphic gives a more simple and straight forward style of motion.

Graphic Design is known to be done on printed media in order to advertise or spread a brand. Graphic Design works with illustration, layout, visual identity etc.
Animation is generally developed for digital medias. There are basically two types of animation 2D and 3D Animation. There are 2 other techniques of animation such as Flip Books (consisting of drawing in several pages in a row), Stop-motion (pictures of an action in different positions and played in enough frames per second to look like a real movement).
