On an HP Pavilion laptop, there is an AMD RYZEN label, an AMD Radeon label, and a B&O logo. Directly to the left of the B&O logo is a little square. What is it and does it have a function?

As rgd1101 said, I would surmise a fingerprint reader.
Knowing the specific model would discover completely.
