What is the Squishy thing under my laptop plate?

Ok, This might sound crazy but there is a squishy thing under my Laptop Backplate, I know its not a slide stand, or a spill...
My Laptop is a MSI GP72 6QF Leopard Pro....
Its a smoothed out square and is squishy but not stick and is coverd in mesh its about 1'x1' and its not a fan nor speaker
this is not a joke BTW

Most likely it is a sponge containing metal, or a piece of foam with metallic tape over it? These are often used in laptop, tablets, and smartphones to make a connection between a component and the ground of the chassis. Or to provide additional shielding.

It is a speaker grille for a subwoofer, which some versions of that laptop come with, but yours does not. Watch this video at about 1:04. When the bottom plate is removed, you will see the subwoofer.
