My Mac's screen has gone black and it no longer displays a picture, but when i connect my Mac to an external monitor i get a picture on that device...

Do you have an idea what may be the problem and how i might be able to fix it, thanks

Bad backlight, bad screen or connection between screen and system board is bad. Which one, you will need to open it and test/replace things.
