Whats this mean....

I have just about saved enough money to get my new laptop. Just looking into what screen to get. THese are my four options:

WXGA 1280x800 + NVIDIA 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 (100351))
WXGA 1280x800 + NVIDIA 9650M GT 512MB GDDR3 (100359)[upg £ 33.13]
WSXGA+ 1680x1050 ZBD + NVIDIA 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 (100350)[upg £ 53.11]
WSXGA 1680x1050 + NVIDIA 9650M GT 512MB GDDR3 (100358)[upg £ 86.00]

Which one is the best value? Also, in terms of CPU's, shall i get the P8400 @ 2.26GHz or shall I pay the extra £53 to get the P8600 @ 2.40GHz?

It depends on what resolution you prefer. The 1680x1050 is going to give you more room to work with on your screen, but you icons and text are going to be smaller. Is this on a 15.4'' screen?

For the graphics, I doubt the 9650M GT offers much more over the regular 9600 so I doubt it would be worth the extra 30 bucks. Personally I would go with the 3rd option (WSXGA+ 1680x1050 ZBD + NVIDIA 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 (100350)[upg £ 53.11] )

As for the CPU, what are you looking to do with the laptop? If you run programs that need CPU speed (rendering and such) then you would want the P8600. If you are gaming, you could probably get away with the P8400.

Im going to be using my laptop for coding and gaming. Is the P8400 not too great then?

Yes it is a 15.4" screen. I was thinking that the third option was the best, but what does WSXGA stand for and what does ZBD stand for? Will this resolution make games look better....i have heard that getting a glossy screen causes unwanted glare? This isn't one of them is it, i dont think it is. Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure i get the right stuff, the price is rising...fast.

What laptop is it? I could tell you more about the screen if I knew who it was coming from since most companies call their glossy screens different things.

Screens for laptops tend to come in three types and what they are is based off of resolution. XGA stands for Extended Graphics Array. The W stands for Wide or Widescreen.
WXGA is usually 1440x900 (not all that common) or 1280x800
WSXGA is 1680x1050
WUXGA is 1920x1200

The ZBD is most likely the glossy form for that screen. Glossy screens do tend to produce some glare, but the image produce is much sharper than on a matte screen. If you don't plan on using your laptop outdoors, then this shouldn't be a problem.

I guess if I were you, I would get the 3rd screen option and use the extra money and put it towards the P8600 if you feel you need it.

ZBD is probably referring to the type of finish on the screen. Im assuming you can choose between glossy and matte. I prefer the matte finish.

Stick with option 3. I wouldnt get the processor upgrade since they want 53 more pounds. Thats over $100cdn. Thats madness. Stick with the p8400 and a year or so down the line, you feel you need more cpu power then you can easily upgrade it to the X (extreme edition) or T models.

Pretty much sounds like a no dead pixel guarantee or something similar.

The P8400 is a fine fine value. . . sure it's no E8400 but it still is a fine value.

Didn't realise it was that easy to upgrade laptop cpu's??

Think im going to go with your advice guys and get the third option. Probably will get the P8400 as £50 seems a lot for a processor that isn't really that much better.
