WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM?

So far AVG has not failed me. However, Norton recently failed not on me, but on one of my friends, allowing his pc to be so overloaded with trojans in one go, that now the pc, even when reformatted, is so unreliable it can be classed as an artform.

Mcafee is a pile of useless donkey crap.
Norton is a pile of useless ram eating donkey crap.

Simple.

Get a free one, theyre just as good anyways, and you can get as many different free A/V programs as you want, as long as only one of 'em is running in the background.
I have manually deleted more viruses than Mcafee has 'deleted'. Within a few days of getting the internet connection with a new and up to date Mcafee program, we got a tonne of viruses. Not only that but I had to manually delete em.
No way am I ever paying for a AV program again.

What on earth makes people pay for programs that are crap, when they could be getting great programs for free.

i have to agree with the norton haters here!

i read somewhere "dont quote me" that norton sucks up a ridiculous amount of system ram. i wish i could remember the exact number but it was enough for both eyes.

Norton is crap, and it even gets worst if you try to uninstall it since the d@mn thing is too intrusive with Windows files. I had a horrible experience trying to uninstall Norton 2004 from a friends comp and believe me, it was one hell of a experience since the damn thing corrupted the windows registry and some other important stuff in the windows kernel. I ended up formatting the whole HD which took my work even longer.

As I said before, F-Secure is really a good antivirus program. Just give it a try here:

I really don't know how reliable that source is, but definately F-Secure works for me.

The fact is, that uber-trojans straight from the programmer's desktop will get by any anti-virus for a fair amount of time unless publicly released. Virus writers also have what's known as packers/binders that will change the tiny pieces of data in a file that virus programs read, which essentially turns any old virus into an undetectable. an anti-virus is only as good as the definitions, and kaspersky by far has the best...

like i said above, I cant even remove NORTON SYSTEM GO BACK! with out losing everything on the computer. if it werent for important work files on this rig id strip it down faster than adriana lima!

OK, I got it.

Well, to my previous experience, F-Secure does have good file definitions and they upload them 2 or 4 times in a day (depends on new threats).

Some time ago I used AVG 6.0 and I really liked it because it's not a system resource hog, but once it finds viruses "on the fly" (while you're using internet) it can't delete them. That was something really weird since you know your AV is working but it can't delete, heal or rename those viruses once it finds them; also, virus definitions in AVG are not that good and that was the final reason why a change this AV program :?

Well with Symantec Antivirus there is a heuristic detection, basicly if it is acting like a virus or smells like a virus it will be detected and dealt with...Im sure some might get through but nonetheless extended protection in that scenario.

I have used Avast for quite a while and never got any problems with it. Looks better than AVG too.

I use PC-Cillin, and have since 1997. The current version works incredibly well, and the only thing I would improve on it is the way you can only get rid of one spyware file at a time.

But I mostly use Spybot and Ad-Aware for that anyway. And Trend Micro definitely updates as often as anyone, particularly when it comes to definition files.

I emailed Panda support about an issue I was having with a select few webpages. Firefox would simply display the HTML code instead of the page and IE would display a distorted version of the page. I knew it was an issue with Panda, because if I turned it off, the pages loaded fine.

Just this evening, they emailed me with a hotfix that fixed the issue. I don't know if this is something they had been working on before I emailed them... but I'm pleased they took the time to listen and actually fix their software... most such requests from major vendors fall on deaf ears.

I do realize it's been a month... however it was a problem that happened on only 2 websites I tried to visit. Everything else was fine. So they took the time to fix what to most big companies would be an insignificant problem.
