Well the 128 version of the MSI definitely has one molex connector;

I just don't think MSI focuses on the power connectors, although if you look at the bottom of the description you see the note in red <font color=red>"1. The supplied power cable must be attached to ensure the card works properly."</font color=red>

would the 6600gt be better than the 128 6800? I'm just curious about the 6600gt because of it's affordability. I know I wouldn't be able to get the settings I want, but i might be able to get by with 1024x768 with 4aa and 8af.

The GF6800 would be better than the GF6600GT.

Take a look at a few benchies from this thread;

<A HREF="http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-11.html" target="_new">http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/nv40-11.html</A>

Specifically this HL2 benchie shows that even at 1024x768 with AA/AF the difference can be between playable and barely playable;

Really it comes down to what you think would be worth the money, and it depends on the prices you see for your re/e-tailers.

My Leadtek 6600GT had one of its memory chips to burn up yesterday. It wasnt even overclocked. Im not blaming this on leadtek, i think that something was a little screwy with this particular card from the begining. Sometimes it would report a certain speed and then 30 minutes later it would report a totally different speed. Oh well, Newegg is taking care of it for me.

The only problem is that none of the PCIe cards that I see for the 6800 have the extra power connector, so I don't see myself being able to OC them very well and the 128mb versions only seem to be on AGP. Do u think it would be smarter to buy a cheap PCIe card like around $50 and wait for one of the high end ATI to come available since they seem to run about the same price as the 6800gt in PCIe?

Yes, definitely, that's my plan although a bit elevated.

A GF6600GT will do you until the next round of mid-level cards. The GF6800 will of course give somewhat better performance short term but if you can turn arund and sell the GF6600GT then you can do better. However I'd never get a $50 as a standby card, they won't play anything at anypoint, and basically become a waste of $50, whereas the other cards can be sold again when you move to the next level. Something like and X300SE or GF6200TC would simply not be useful for gaming at all, more like a slidshow viewer card.

That SuX man!

But it does happen even with the best of mfrs, and even the most knowledgeable of users.

Sounds like it was some glitch in the card that made it past quality control. Nice to see a NewEgg is dealing with it in a satisfactory and prompt manner.

thanks for the input GrapeApe, I think I will get the 6600gt to hold me over until the next wave of cards becomes available. As far as my budget and availability go, I can either get the Asus SLI mobo, or the Gigabyte SLI. The other option is the Gigabyte K8NF-9. I was thinking of going with the Asus because I can get it for 188. Out of these boards which do you think would be the best way to go?

Like I've said, I prefer Gigabyte, but the ASUS probably gives you the best bang for your buck, and more options for the future than the K8NF-9.
