I was between the acer predator 17x and the alienware 17 (i7-6820hk) model.

Considering your budget, i'd wait another month or two for the mobile 10 series GPUs to come out.
The 1080M is speculated to offer close to desktop 1080 performance, meaning a huge increase in performance from the 900 series cards.
