I would go for the first one because it has a faster CPU and VGA.
As for the slower HDD,you can upgrade it yourself

i've heard some stuff about asus making better computers than acer and i don't want to get something that will break in a year or 2

The best laptop really depends on what you will be using it for. I noticed that both laptops you linked to have graphics cards. Are you a big gamer?

I play WoW, mass effect, and some of the total war games. It's always nice to have a good computer anyways. I currently have a inspiron 1520 P.O.S. so most anything is an upgrade. I'm most likely going to buy one of these two, i know they're both pretty powerful for laptops , but i don't to get screwed in a year or two because of the quality of the hardware.

I would go with the Acer because the processor is much more powerful. Plus, the larger screen would be better for gaming. It seems like the better value overall.

I ended up buying that one from bestbuy yesterday, but it was buggy and kept crashing. I returned it earlier and got a new one. This one seems to be working fine, although i haven't played any games on it yet.
