I'm tempted by the Acer Aspire, but it only has an i5. Would this impact much on gaming/ photoshop/ general use?

Yes it is. While the RAM isn't really necessary beyond 8GB, the Quad Core i7 and GTX 960M is what your looking for. All the other laptops have either a GTX 950M and a i7 quad core or a i7/i5 dual core and a GTX 960M/860M.

Thanks for the response. Is the i7 and the extra 8gb of ram worth the additional £140? I was under the impression 8gb would be sufficient for gaming at the settings the other components would allow.

In my opinion, yes, especially if you plan on doing any heavy multitasking or video editing in the future.
