It all depends on what you're looking for.

The HP is much faster, due to it's hyper-threaded dual-core (4 logical cores) and it's faster speed. It also uses up to 47 watts vs. the Acer's 15 watts, which means it either has a heavier battery or the battery will not last as long as the Acer's.

So this means that if you want a powerful CPU, the HP is the one to go with. However, if you want either a lighter weight laptop (due to a smaller battery) or one with a longer battery life, go with the Acer. The Acer has a 4-cell battery, the HP has a 6-cell battery. That means the HP has a 50% larger battery, and it makes the HP heavier, but I suspect the battery life on both are comparable, but probably the Acer will last longer and be lighter (while the HP battery is 50% heavier, it's CPU uses twice the power at full load).

But then the HP has a larger screen, 17.3 inches vs. the Acer's 15.6 (both at the same pixels, 1920x1080).

But then the Acer is an actual gaming laptop, with a discrete nVidia GT 750M graphics card, while the HP has a crappy Intel integrated video. So you couldn't game with the HP but you can with the Acer.

As I said, it all depends on what you want to do with the laptop. Smaller, lighter weight, gaming? The Acer.

According to PassMark, the Acer's CPU is less than half as powerful as the HP's CPU.
