I'm planning on ordering a system primarily to recieve just one channel
Thai tv. My primary viewing is with Directv and will continue to be.
This system will be for my wife to view thai news and shows. I've seen
Pansat 330A and 2300 systems listed in the $275 range. From what I've
read Pansat is a reliable reciever is there any pros and cons to either
one or any other recievers better recommended. I don't plan on a
motorized dish for now but might decide later to go that route just to
play around to see what I can get from other Sats. Thanks for any
recommendations

you can get a coship 3188A for about $120 and use any small dish and a DTV
lnb to get what you want and for $130 you can get the Coship 3188C which has
blind scan. You can park it on the Satellite you need.

Be sure the channel is on a DBS satellite before you take that dish
advice (that receiver is fine). Also make sure there is no plans to
encrypt.

Thanks for the info. When you say any small dish are you referring to a
70cm or is either a Directv 18" round or oval dish also suitable. I
recently upgraded Directv to HDTV through their $99 offer for a dish
and reciever. When the installer came he brought an oval dish with him
so I have an extra round and oval.

The minimum diameter for reliable reception of FSS signals is 75cm (30
inches) and the lnbf needs to be linear. The dishes that you are referring
to are designed to be used with the high power DBS satellites and have
circular lnbfs.

If you are interested in possibly adding a motor, don't consider anything
less than DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS). Enter in your longitude and latitude and it
will locate each satellite automatically if your dish and motor have been
aligned correctly. With DiSEqC 1.2 you need to identify and program each
satellite location.

Even if you decide not to go with a blind search receiver, USALS is a must
with a motorized dish!
