I am using a fairly old HP DV7-1103ea
AMD Trion X2 RM-72 2.1ghz
ATI Radeon HD Mobility 3450
3ghz

I currently have 7 64bit but feels kind of slow and clunky, Which OS would be recommended?

Edit: I tend to play games such as Dota 2, HoN, Strife and Runescape, On dota 2 spawn FPS is 40 then drops to 20.

People will probably scream bloody murder that im suggesting this, but windows 8.1 runs way better on older/lower end hardware than 7 does. It uses a good deal less resources. Plenty on info online to compare with. Also, though I dont use them myself, I hear alot of the linux distros are real lightweight as well.

That's definitely true. Windows 8.1 runs better than windows 8 which runs even better than windows 7. Also, Linux distroses are very lightweight and run very well and there shouldn't be any compatibility problems most of the times with the most common distros

I'd try both, but if linux doesn't offer the tools I am needing I would obviously get windows

I can recommend you linux mint, It's been a while since I had it but it was pretty good, specially for windows users like me that prefer GUIs

I'd say 8.1 as its windows and linux is still not super wide spread. You MAY find that some software you want is not available for linux.
