Sony XBR55X850B http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-55-class-54-5-8-diag--led-2160p-smart-3d-4k-ultra-hd-tv-black/5005006.p?id=1219106275392&skuId=5005006

OR

Samsung UN55HU8550FXZA http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-55-class-54-5-8-diag--led-2160p-smart-3d-4k-ultra-hd-tv-silver/4497012.p?id=1219098558798&skuId=4497012

I looked at both at the store, but on the Sony model they were playing some old DVD and the Samsung was playing 4k, so it is hard to compare. Basically, if I gave you the money, which would you buy? It's going in a home theater room.

Thanks.

Samsung all the way, they are one of the best for TV products and they have flawless reputation, I love their customer service, so quick to give me all the answers I need :)

Edit: I think I have seen the Sony TV in another thread and you'd have to download a software for HDMI 2.0 to work. I prefer built-in ports rather than software.

Ok, thanks. People say that Sony is better because it looks more "natural"...is that true? I feel like a lot of the problem comes from cable companies compressing the video. I can demo it at the store, but would using the YouTube app to watch a 4k video be a fair test?

Yeah, sure, I used to use "Transformers 4 4k trailer" to see if there is some improvements, I think that's a good test. I bought the movie and my TV was able to upscale pretty close to 4k, it looks more real than normal HD, probably because it was like iMax certified.

I stopped by the store on the way home and tested them out. The clerk was telling me that the Samsung had upscaling and the Sony did not, and another told me that the Sony model does not blur during motion and is more clear, and that the passive 3D is better. I concluded that the Samsung had nicer colors, but the Sony had a sharper image, but the first guy said it's because of the settings. I still can't make up my mind.

But if you really want a real UHD TV, get my TV :) Panasonic AX800, but it around $2200 with tax, I got it for $2500. Best picture quality I have ever seen, I never liked panasonic, but I can't argue with how good their products are after experiencing this TV :D

Yeah, panasonic has horrible customer support, I'm glad my TV came in okay. I like Samsung because they've always been the most popular with TVs, and if I need something, I always get a quick answer with their live chat. Sony just seems to have problems with their display ports like HDMI, but I have never tested them, so I guess I'll never know if they're great. I just go with what's popular with the best reviews. I haven't seen a Sony TV with more than 4 stars before.

Since there are not a lot of UHD contents out yet, it'd be better to get a TV with upscaling so it'll look better.

Edit: You'd pretty much be stuck in HD on an UHD TV if you get the Sony TV, unless you use it to game a lot. But if you're going to put it in the living room or something, Samsung upscaling would be better since it'll make the picture quality better than HD.
