Purpose: I will primarily be using this for some intensive Matlab programming and watching video (NO gaming). The programming will involve optimization problems (i.e. variation of the Grassfire algorithm on a medical image). I really would prefer Option 2 because it's cheaper, but if Option 1 gives me a huge advantage when it comes to speed and performance, I would consider it. I'm just not sure if the specs are that much better to justify spending an extra $300 if I won't even notice the difference for what I'm doing. Thanks in advance!
