why do i have to press ALT+FN+F4 to shutdown, instead of ALT+F4?

WHEN i press the ALT+F4 combination keys, a SECOND SCREEN icon poops OUT, but then, when i use the ALT+FN+F4 combination keys then the shutdown icon poops out

Make sure you are actually hitting Alt F4 and not Fn F4. Sounds like you are hitting the wrong key.
