Question Why is my phone showing a red X on battery

For quite a while now my phone only shows a red X on the battery icon instead of a lightning bolt when plugged in. Occasionally, when I use a certain cord and plug into my computer it will show the lightning bolt but my computer won't recognize it. When plugged into the wall it only shows the red X. Someone please help!

What specific make/model phone are we talking about here?

If your phone is under warranty, you should contact your carrier. Are you using the cable/charger that came with the phone, or an aftermarket one?

I have see some very poor aftermarket cables that failed to make proper contact. Same for the chargers, as well.
