Why my tv does not recognize my usb drive? when i plug it in nothing happens.TV is LG 26LD320

Some TV's have issues with capacities >XGB (varies from TV to TV). I've seen problems with USB3.0 drives that require a little more power than the typical USB2.0 (on most TVs) provide.

The format of the drive can also be a factor.

^^ That's a good point too. There;s a few threads around suggesting hacks etc for that model, so it may officially be 'firmware only'.

An example of another 'complaint': http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/1313710-hacking-usb-service-lg-26ld320.html

I won't link the supposed hacks etc - but Google is your friend if you want to go down that route.

shows my age that i remember tvs with usb ports only for firmware updates lol most people just assume if a tv has a usb port it can play media files

I too had a problem with this, one LG TV claiming a problem on the USB drive.
It could be a number of things so the answers below are not necessarily wrong and it would pay you to check them off as you go.
but what I discovered was in my case was it was down to the Master Boot record of the device I was trying to connect to the TV.
The device in question I was trying to connect was using the newer "GUI Partition Table" instead of the current "Master Boot Record". The TV in question simply did not recognize GPT. As soon as I changed GPT to MBR the TV immediately recognize the drive.

Had the same problem with my Samsung TV. One day it decided to stop recognizing a USB drive that I use with it all the time. Reformatted my USB drive to NTFS format and it worked instantly. Hope this helps...
