WI FI Problem

My daughter has a HP Pavillion Laptop & the WI FI Light turns red when off & blue when turned on BUT when she un plugs it from the Comcast Modem she doesn't have internet .What could be causing this problem .I have checked out everytning in my bage of tricks & now I need someone who knows whats up with her Hp Laptop ?

when she connect ot the modem it is wired or wireless also check if the modem could transmit wireless signal .

How do you try to connect to the network?
Can you see your own wireless network?
Can other PC's/Laptops connect to the network via WiFi?
Are both the hardware and software switches for the WiFi set to on?(most HP's have a software utility)

They have a cell phone that works off the WI FI from their modem & they had a different laptop that worked also this points back to the laptop they have now. it seems what do ya guys think

the other laptop have the mac address registered on the wireless mac address permit list in the comcast modem .

To me it feels like, it just hasn't been told to connect to the modem correctly.
Can the new laptop not see the wireless network? Or does it see it and can't connect?

Fellas it's thier Laptop I took mine & it done fine off thier Comcast modem & i brought thiers up he & it wouldn't work off our WiFi so that pretty well points to thier laptop being the problem & it can't be repaired they are goona have to get them one & thier DVD-RW doesn't work either .It's time for another Laptop for them
