WiFi extender or Mesh?

I need help getting better WiFi signal to my upstairs office. Standing next to the xfinity modem/router, I get over 200 mbps. However, upstairs in the office that is farthest away from the router, I only get 8 mbps. I don't understand whether I need an extender or a mesh system. Can someone help? Thanks

Are you connecting via 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz connection? 2.4Ghz handles walls better than 5Ghz.

An extender could help. You also have the option to use wireline adapters.

I honestly have no idea or even how to check that. I assume it is a dual band router. It was installed about a year ago

Log into your router and see what devices are attached, on what networks.

You can also look at the properties of your wi-fi connection to determine this.
