Will a blue ray dvd player work without the HDMI cable?

What are you trying to do, exactly?

A quick look at specs on several makes of BR player only show HDMI out. If it did have other outputs they'd likely not be 1080p which defeats the purpose of BR.

Currently made BluRay players only output HD on the HDMI connection. Many have only this connection.
If the player has additional connections for video and audio output then they can be used without HDMI but you will not get the same quality of picture and sound.
