Tec support can't get the laptop to take the win 7 cd as boot disk. I have XP media center 2002 sp#3 and it has ERecover from acer

Before you try to install Win 7 on your laptop, did you check on Acer's support site for Win 7 drivers for it? If there are not any, it's not a good idea to install it.

Win 7 is not a CD, it's a DVD. Do you have a DVD drive?
