windows 8.1 (touchpad) tapping no longer works. I like to use a quick tap on touchpad to click or to exit a window.

I am having trouble tapping on Windows 8.1 touchpad to select a file or exit a window. Like to just use a quick tap to do this.

What actually is going on? Your touchpad is working to move mouse but you can't use it to click? Do the hardware buttons work?

The touchpad works. Tapping on touchpad doesn't. the hardware buttons (not sure what they are ) however if it means left and right clicking using the touchpad that works fine. Just can no longer tap to click using touchpad.

Well, you probably have Synaptics touchpad, and if you have installed software of it you can check the settings (usually you can find running application in tray).
Also you can download fresh drivers from here. http/www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php
but again, check firstly is it synaptics or not (go to device manager and find ps/2 pointing device (name can be different) under mice and other pointing devices or under Human Interface Devices and check Manufacturer on Details Tab).
