windows 8 black screen

I was using Window 8 on a Toshiba brand laptop. I wanted to make changes so I thought I could restart and get into safe mode like in Windows 7, but the F8 made the screen black. Can this be fixed?

Just restart the computer. Windows 8 doesn't use the F8 key to get into safe mode anymore. It's a convoluted process to get there, and is usually done from within Windows 8.
