[citation][nom]M22244[/nom]Why is the US gov working with these crooks and their bogus fees rather than forcing them to be more competitive and not charge 10,000% more than it actually costs to send a text message or use any significant amount of data.[/citation]

Not that i have anything against what you just said, but given the amount of traffic that each cell site gets is quite a lot, add the other 20k ppl sending a txt through that same cell site and they have every right to charge you. I have a brother in the industry and switching out equipment on cell sites isn't cheap, were talking thousands of dollars for each unit replaced. These cell sites and there equipment only go so long, sooner or later they die, burn out, etc. Charges must be applied to each thing whether it be txt, data, or calling. Its a business that has a lot of employee's it has to pay. That's just my 2 cents.

I feel like consumers are being wallet raped because the cell industry feels like wireless data is a luxury convenience. In the US, its typical to pay $30-50 a month for internet access. However, I get the full use of the service at a constant speed for this fee. I pay the same for wireless data on my phone, but I get much worse speeds and I have a cap. Not gonna renew if the model stays the same, I can view porn while I drive on my PSP.

Not really news to me, I never had a data plan before now, but AT&T has been sending me messages about my usage for a while. I assumed all carriers did this already.

AT&T, as a whole corporation, made close to $20 billion USD($19.864 billion USD, to be pretty exact), in profit, during 2010. You can argue about AT&T Wireless being a subsidiary, but AT&T owns 100% of AT&T Wireless, so don't.

Text messages are handled through the control channel. If you would rather learn more on the subject, rather than entertaining us with some banter you "heard from your brother", read this: http://gthing.net/the-true-price-of-sms-messages I would break it down for you, but I figure this article would be easier for you to understand.

There are other articles that cover the actual costs of bandwidth, and how carriers are lying about the limitations of wireless(network capacity is spectrum multiplied by the number of towers, i a given area). Everyone continues to buy into these company's lies, as these companies use public property for self-enrichment(nothing wrong with that, as long as it is not abused), while continuing to drive up price.

As technology improves, then the price for the services that said technology provides should decrease. Instead, the price continues to increase. All of this, while these companies squat on unused spectrum, and demand more spectrum. So, please, spare us your "think of the poor companies" statements.

I am not against companies making money. I am not against companies making as much money as possible. I am against companies abusing customers and customers' trust. I am against companies artificially increase prices, as a way to increase profit.

In the end, these greedy executives will reap what they sow.

Many people have opened a bill from their mobile phone business to learn it’s drastically inflated; this can be known as “bill shock”. Federal regulators and cellular companies have attained an agreement to let people know beforehand if they're due to get a large bill. Resource for this article: Cell phone carriers and FCC reach agreement over bill shock .

Millions have had “bill shock” then they learn their cellular phone bill is way more than they expected it to be. Federal regulators announced last year that they wished it to not happen to customers. However, cellular companies and the Federal Communications Commission have attained a deal that may control bill shock by supplying individuals more warning beforehand. Resource for this article: Cell phone carriers and FCC reach agreement over bill shock.

Nice idea "Wireless carriers have agreed to end "bill shock" by sending texts to customers warning of overages and possible fees". It is very useful for such admirers to use cell phones a lot and no notice the time. It keeps such people in safe not paying big bills and then taking same day cash loans till the next income.

When Al Franken ran for office I thought it might have been a joke, and I didn't think he'd win(neither did his opponent). He has been one of my favorite politicians ever since though. Maybe we just need to start electing more and Comedians to office. Franken has been impressing me left and right with some of his actions, it's almost like he cares about more than just his voters. Comedians always seem to understand what is going on way better than politicians who tend to live in their own world without paying much attention to common people who make their ends meet relying on cash advance loans. Who is with me I say we put up Robbin Williams and Luis Black for 2012. The world is going to end anyway lets at least have some fun with it.
