WMV 9.0 - file stops playing

I have converted one of my personal DVD's to wmv 9.0 format using WME to
play on my PocketPC (2003) iPaq 22xx. The wmv is made at 400Kbps, 320x152,
and is about 2 hours long.

The file plays correctly and everything looks very nice, but about 20-30
minutes into the file, it abruptly stops and Media Player is no longer
running. When I look at the System memory and show running programs, Media
Player is no longer there.

This is true for any WMV file I play that is over this 20-30 minute length.

Although, when I play the file in portrait mode, it seems to play longer
than if I play it in landscape mode. Landscape mode = I have to rotate my
iPaq 90 degrees to view the movie.

I do notice that I don't have much Storage memory left, about 5MB; and my
Program memory has about 11MB left.

Anyone have a clue as to why this happens? I'm guessing a memory overrun
issue.

Thanks.

Assuming the file plays on the desktop media player from end to end,
are you sure the whole file was copied to the PDA correctly ? A lot of
PDAs barf during the send of large files over activeSync.

The surefire (and *much* quicker) way to transfer large video files is
to get a card reader, and place the video directly onto the SD card
from the PC - bypassing the involvement of the PDA at all. Then just
play the video from the SD card - most of them can "keep up" even at
400kbps.

Try that and see if it helps.

Yes, I do all my transfers with a card reader (SD Card).
Yes, the file plays from end to end on the Desktop PC, either from the local
harddrive, or the card in the cardreader. The problem appears to be
platform specific, in this case PocketPC and/or WMP for PocketPC.

I can't think of anything which could cause this, particularly after
20-30 minutes play time. Do you know what codecs are used by the
encoding session, and if you are sending 'script commands' or other
oddities ?
