Won't restore need help

My friend has a MacBook Pro and it won't let me restore it

What year and model? What exactly do you mean it "won't let you restore it"? Does it start the restore process and then stop? If yes, do you get an error message and what is that message? How are you trying to restore it - OS install discs or Internet restore? The more details you provide the easier it will be to find a solution.
