won't turn on with hard drive

hi I got a hold of a Presario 2500 laptop, it will boot to bios but when I install a hard drive it won't turn on.

when in the bios, select boot from dvd and install your operating system to the hard drive.i assume the hard drive already has an operating system on it? very seldom does this work.

the problem is when I install the hd the laptop won't even turn on

without the hard drive installed boot to the bios.choose dvd drive as first boot.shut it down and install the hard drive.try restarting with your install dvd in the drive and see if you can install then. if it still wont at least start i suspect a bad hard drive.
