Solved! WUXGA Laptop displays

What has happened to WUXGA (1920x1200) displays on 17" laptops? They are much harder to find lately. Seems they are all going to 1600x900 or 1650x1050 or some other HD like format. I prefer WUXGA and would like to see them return.

^That's unfortunately not true WUXGA. The 1920x1200 standard is being replaced by the 1080p HD standard since most OEMs want to provide a smoother experience for those watching BDs and HD content on their laptops. I don't much care for it, but such is the way of things.

It's a shame that our choices are being limited by movies and gaming. Just goes to show what the next generation is interested in I guess.

Actually, that's not entirely true either...

1920 x 1080 resolution screens are displacing 1920 x 1200 resolution screens in both laptops and monitors because they are cheaper. LCD panels are cut from very large panes of "LCD glass"; I think some panes are as large as 12' x 7'. You can cut more 16:9 panels than you can 16:10 panels from each pane. Therefore, each individual panel can be sold at a lower price to recover the cost and to make a profit.

Valid point. Still sucks from some consumer's standpoint.

Absolutely agree. I had to settle for a 1080 on a two thousand dollar notebook, because I could not find a good unit with a 1200 display- short of 2500 bucks. my old D830 had the x1200 screen in a 15.4 inch, and it was fantastic for CAD and everything else. unfortunately it was stolen or I would still be using it. core2 with 4gb ram, was more than good enough for most things.
