XO Laptops for Europeans

So Americans could buy one and send one to those in Europe that's been crushed under the boot of Socialism.

Joking, but I don’t support OLPC as everything is custom made and overpriced. $200 could buy half decent used notebook running legit WinXP and full PC functionality.

Crushed under the socialist boot, eh?

In a socialist country, taxes would be used to get every child a notebook. Crushed? I think not.

The $399/£275 is the cost of two laptops -- by making a donation of that amount, you will Give One (to a developing nation) and Get One (for yourself or your child).

Alternatively, you can pay half that amount to just Give One.

Wow, what an ignorant statement you have made. Checking just now, newegg.com's lowest priced netbook with LINUX is 299.99.

This is not to mention that OLPC started doing this in early 2005 and at that time there were no netbooks to compare to; thereby making the 'next best thing' much, much more expensive.

You may be able to get some sponsorships and grants to give some folks some laptops for $200, but you can't do anything that is sustainable for that price.

Besides, if it was that crappy of an idea, Intel wouldn't have run off from the OLPC group and started their own version...greedy bastards.
