"By adding Google to our list of world-class contextual ads partners, we'll be able to expand our network, which means we can serve users with ads that are even more meaningful,"

haha oh wow Yahoo and Google are doing us such a service by sticking ads in our face. I don't know what I would do without ads!

As much as i dislike intrusive ads -like the highlighted words in THGs editorials; one has to understand that the websites who deliver the content we love have to be financed somehow.

If not with ads, then how do you propose it should be done ?

you would pay for the use of a search engine, email, news, youtube, you know what... everysingle thing you see on the internet, you would pay for without ads, or a huge donation drive every year.

These things were free for years. I never saw an intrusive ad 10 years ago. Now it's like we surf ads with websites in them.

yea, years ago webpages didn't take a few mb per page, and even than, many sites were funded through ads, just not the current ones. hell, even a long time ago i remember ads everywhere, just the ones like on toms where its blue and hovering over them is annoying or the eff you flash ads that take a whole page.

people will pay less for a static ad now and more for a flash ad, or ones that are annoying like the blue ones. sure, somethings were ad free, but they were also walled guardens or services.

remember hotmail, you got 20mb, could pay for more, and pop3 (i believe that's what its called) costed money to have. you got basic for free, but you were let in on the backs of people who payed money.

there is not a single site i go to besides 4chan, that operates in the red with no clear way to make money off the site itself.

fact is unless you have people willing to do donation drives, you need ads or need some kind of a subscriber system.

I have a suspicion this news could be translated as

"Yahoo felt cold, so decided to pee their pants to warm up"

A small advertising and services company like Yahoo striking a deal with the worlds largest advertising company doesnt sound good news...
