[citation][nom]snowzsan[/nom]Yeah but in reality a company isn't going to overhaul a security system unless they absolutely have to. So while hackers are mostly scum in the tech world, at the same time they're the driving force behind the reasoning for innovation. So maybe Yahoo didn't see a need to update their security, but now they do. Lesson learned.Same thing as us. I'm not going to purchase a home security system because I don't think I need one. But the minute my house is robbed, you can bet your ass I'm going to get more than a dead bolt installed.[/citation]

Wait, what? So security should only be fixed/updated/put in place AFTER something happens? Isn't it too late then?

I keep an alarm system and a pistol grip pump home defense 12 guage in my house JUST IN CASE. Why take a chance with the security of you and your family? It should be the same way with online security.

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. Its better have to have security systems and guns and not need them, than to need them and not have them!

I moved all my important emails away from yahoo. Early this year, you couldn't even log in to see your email for like a week. That was the breaking point for me.

So much for mysql_real_escape, hash+salt. So many US companies seem to fail in providing security. In UK by law companies have to encrypt even users home address let alone passwords etc.
