Disable Automatic Restart on a Windows 8 Laptop

When you have a laptop for a long time and you frequently install and uninstall applications, there may be instances when your computer faces system failure.

When your Windows 8 computer experiences system failure, it automatically restarts.

The default configuration that allows Windows 8 to automatically restart every time a system failure occurs is integrated into the operating system in order to prevent the system files from corrupting due to an abrupt shutdown. However, if you are using your laptop for testing purposes, you may not want the computer to automatically restart due to system failures as you may be initializing the system failure instances intentionally. In these situations, you can configure your laptop in a way that it does not restart when a system failure occurs.

Disabling automatic restart in a Windows 8 laptop is an easy process but requires you to log on to the computer using an administrator account.

Here is how you can disable automatic restart on your Windows 8 laptop:

■Log on to your Windows 8 laptop with the administrator account.
■Click the Desktop tile once you are on the Start screen.

■From the taskbar that is present at the bottom of the desktop window, click the File Explorer icon.
■Once the This PC window opens up, from the navigation pane in the left, right-click the This PC tree.
■From the context menu that appears, click Properties.

■On the opened System window, under the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section, click the Change settings link.

■From the opened System Properties box, go to the Advanced tab.
■From the displayed interface, from the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button.

■On the Startup and Recovery box that comes up, under the System failure section, uncheck the Automatic restart checkbox.

■Once this is done, click OK, and back on the System Properties box, click OK again.
■Once you are back on the desktop window, restart the computer in order to allow the changes to take effect.
