If your shiny new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 fails to boot for any reason, there is no need to panic right away. While it is an issue, it isn’t a showstopper and can the cause can often be identified and addressed at home. Here’s how to fix the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 no POST and stuck on Dell screen fail.

There are two main issues with boot on Dell XPS machines. Where the device does not POST (Power-On-Self-Test) and where the POST completes but gets stuck at the Dell logo or does not reach the Windows loading screen. I’ll guide you through both.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 no POST
If your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 seems alive and has LEDs lit telling you the battery and SSD are fine, chances are that it failed the POST. The Power-On-Self-Test is a diagnostic every computer runs to ensure everything is working correctly and can be used in that session. If a piece of hardware does not respond as expected, it fails POST.

Usually, this results in some beeps or an error but this isn’t always the case. Here is what you need to do.

1. Reboot your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1.
2. Press Fn and the power button at the same time. This will be you into ePSA (Dell Enhanced Pre-Boot System Assessment) which is a diagnostic setting.
3. You may have to press F12 at the Dell logo to enter ePSA.
4. The ePSA is a text-based system that should automatically run once loaded.

ePSA will either:
• Not run at all which means a warranty call.
• It will run and give you an error code, which you can look up here.
• It will pass all hardware. This means the issue is software.

The action you take next will depend on what ePSA says. A warranty call is just that. An error code may also require a warranty call depending on what it says. If the device passes ePSA, you may need to restore Windows.

If the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 POSTs and gets stuck at the Dell logo, it means it is Windows that is preventing boot.

You can try:
1. Removing all peripherals and USB devices and retrying.
2. Resetting the BIOS to defaults. Reboot and hit F2 until you see Entering Setup. Then select default options, Save and Exit.
3. Using the use the Dell Pre-boot System Diagnostics as above.
4. Boot from Windows 10 installation media and select Reset this PC. Remember to select the Keep my files option!
5. Perform a factory reset from the Windows 10 installation media. This will wipe your laptop of all your data.
6. Make a warranty call if your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is covered.

If your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 doesn’t POST or gets stuck on the Dell screen, you have a few options. Work your way through them methodically and one of these steps will surely fix it. There is always Dell Support if they don’t!
