How to Control Your Roku Remotely From Any Device

You can control your Roku TV or Roku streaming player using the free Roku mobile app available for both Android and IOS devices. Roku also allows third-party developers to create remote control applications. This is achieved by using an open interface designed and published by Roku. The interface has no security risks to the Roku platform or customer’s accounts.
To be able to control your Roku remotely from any device, you must first download the Roku app and ensure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku device.
But first, you must permit your Roku device to accept commands over your home network using the External Control settings.

Here are simple steps on how to control Roku remotely on any device.
1. Download the Roku app on the device
  • ■ Depending on the type of device you’re using, download Roku app from the app store or Play store

    ■ ‘Permissive: ‘Choose this if you’re on a publicly addressable network and you want to use a third-party app or the Roku Mobile App to control your Roku device.
Note: Most users do not have a publicly addressable network because this type of network is an advanced configuration.
