Stardew Valley - What to Become? Forester or Gatherer?

There are many skills in Stardew Valley that depend on how well you do in the game and one of that skill is that of Foraging. Foraging involves gathering up all the items that nature has to offer. This involves the plants such as Purple Mushrooms and Chanterelles, as well as wood, hardwood and seeds. The skill levels up as you do that and once you hit level 5 in the skill you will be offered a choice. You will have to choose between being a forester or a gatherer.

The Forester is the sub-skill that focuses on wood and the benefits you receive from it whereas the gatherer is more focused on the items that grow naturally every season. It can be difficult to choose between them so here are the pros and cons for each of them and at the end there is our opinion on which is the most useful.
Walkthrough:
Let us first discuss the forester with you. As has been already said, the Forester is the one that deals with the cutting of wood, what it is worth when you sell it and what you get when you chop a tree down. The forester gains a 50% increase in the price of any wood that they sell. That means normal wood as well as hardwood.

The foresters real benefits shine when you level up this skill to level 10 because that is when you will be able to choose between the lumberjack or the tapper.

The tapper gives you a 25% bonus to all the syrup you produce which may not seem like much but once you combine that with the fact that you can tap as many trees as you want that makes it so that for every 4 syrups you get an extra one for free without having to do anything.

The lumberjack, on the other hand, makes it so that you get hardwood from every tree you fell. This makes the search for hardwood insanely easier as hardwood is needed for almost every building that you can make in the game.
The gatherer on the other hand has some bonuses which apply throughout the whole game. At level 5 you get the ability to get 2 items from foraging once but it only has a 20% chance of success. That in itself is pretty good because you can get two items when you only find one and that can be used to make a lot of products like jam or juice and you can sell those for a much higher price than normal.
At level 10 you can choose from the botanist or the tracker.

Both of these skills are useful. The botanist makes it so that you will always get the highest quality of a foraged item whereas the tracker reveals the location of nearby foraging items.
In the end it depends on what style you play the game with and how comfortable you are with each skill. But it has been noted in the game that hardwood gets scarce during the late game that is why the expert players choose the lumberjack profession because of how easy it gets to make buildings and to improve your farm.
