What country do you live in? What consumer protection laws do you have? This sounds pretty dubious on their behalf, if you write them a threatening letter they may relent - worth a try at least.

Have you considered a netbook? You won't be able to use PS but, to be honest, It whatever laptop you buy on a low budget, PS is going to be unbearably slow.

I would really look into the reviews for specific laptops rather than opinions on a company as a whole. Every company is capable of making some decent products, if they couldn't they would have gone bust, but they can also produce a few stinkers. I would tend to avoid Dell though.

Ah sorry, I should have looked at your laptop model - you can't change particular keys. You could try reinstalling your laptop's drivers but, replacement keyboards only cost £15 - replacing might be your only option.

Thanks but the E1-571 is too thick and looks too 'budgety' for what I am after. I'm going to have my desktop with me so, while performance is an issue, it isn't as important as the other factors. Portability is really important and 2.5kg is too much.

Have you spilt anything on your keyboard? This is a common cause of the symptoms you are describing. Let it dry out if it is water, if it is coke or something give it a clean.
