Solved! Should I buy a newer phone even if the user doesn't use all its features?

I had this question on the Tom's Hardware forum until they deleted it after informing me that Tom's Guide had a forum too, and that was the appropriate venue for this question. The upshot of the discussion there was: Samsung's "A" line of phones is a reliable budget brand (I knew this, I...

Solved! Should I buy a newer phone even if the user doesn't use all its features?

I have a friend in his 70's that I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 (circa 2014) last year to use with his budget phone plan, and it appears to have stopped working, so I got him a e Moto 6 (a budget phone for a budget plan, to be sure, but the latest budget phone) and he is pleased with it as the...

What are the best options for televisions around $150 or less?

Well, I opted for the Samsung over the TCL because of the differential in reviews of reliability, and also because the TCL is a "smart TV" and I prefer to have that "smart" part separate (with the Roku), but despite the adage "you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p unless you're up...

What are the best options for televisions around $150 or less?

I notice that TV manufacturers don't make 720p TVs if the TVs are over 40 inches. I have watched both Blu-rays and HBO HD streaming on the old 2007 Vizio and both did look good on it. Video games looked awful.

What are the best options for televisions around $150 or less?

I have three setups in the house. There is the TV in the living room which is a 24" SDTV from the mid-2000's hooked up to a PS2. There is a TV in one of the bedrooms which is a Vizio 720p LCD from 2007 (terrible viewing angles, washed out blacks, but it was still an impressive upgrade at the...

How did a file meant to be made smaller wind up larger than the original?

Well, instead of Handbrake this time I used Super to re-encode. I set the video bit rate to approximately the same, and cut the audio bitrate in half (it was actually 2.0 to being with, not DD5.1). Super didn't re-encode it at exactly the same bit rate, it came in at about 1500 kbps less...

How did a file meant to be made smaller wind up larger than the original?

I'm trying to re-encode a movie that is about 6GB down to 4GB, I want to keep the video bitrate the same, but knock down the audio from 5.1 to 2.0, and I went to use Handbrake to do this, but I wound up with a file than was larger (13GB) than what I started with? How did this happen? I can't...

Gameboy Advance SP ver1 vs ver2 vs DS? (brightness and nits)

I'm looking to play the first few Final Fantasy games over the portable GBA format, and I bought a first version GBA SP but I am wondering if I should trade up to the GBA SP version 2 (with the backlit and brighter screen) or even trade up to one of the DS models? I mean, the screen is bright...
