Ah okay so i will get an optical cable. Is any optical cable good enough pretty much (i.e. amazon basics vs. a gold plated one (that cost just about the same).

Hi Captain, I want to use my HDMI port 3 (which is the ARC port) for my xbox HDMI video connection. However, I need to use the HDMI port 3 (the ARC port) to connect to my receiver for the sound. So, to fix this I have to use either optical or 3.5mm option instead of ARC. Best

Hi there, I have a Sony x900e, and my receiver is an STR DH550. I don't want to run HDMI video through my receiver. I'm using ARC currently, but my TV only has enhanced 4k in ports 2 and 3, and ARC is port 3...So, for my xbox, i'm unable to get the 'best' picture as I have to use HDMI port 1...

ah okay, so my TV has no red & white outputs...interesting. Oh okay I see now with the 3.5mm chord. I'll keep the ARC for now then if that is what sounds like the 'best' quality. Really thank you so much. Great lessons learned for me here. Hope you have a great night. Best, Frank

as a follow up, is optical / digital better than ARC and audio?

Hm i'm still a bit confused I think. I just tried multiple connections but nothing worked. Sorry to be annoying, but can you spell out exactly where to plug the red and white audio plugs in the TV into? Also if any TV settings that may affect this. Also for the ARC, I did just figure that out...

For the audio out there's only one plug, that says digital audio out (the one on the top right of the box). I tried the white and red one in there, and no sound still. Should one of those work? If so, maybe it's also a setting on my receiver?
