I really like Dell's Customer Service. I replaced a few parts in my laptop during the life of my warranty without any problems. Plus, they're probably the only ones who have in-home tech support so you don't have to send in your laptop for repairs.

It would've been nice if they did this back in the 90s.

The Clevo W150HN comes close to the $800 budget mark and has the new Sandy Bridge Quad-core processor. I'm not sure how well the 540M GPU will handle Bioshock or GTA 4, but I own the NP5135/B5130M (predecessor) and I love the laptop. One major downside is the speaker quality and placement, but...

Does this look weird at all? HWMonitor has only been reading 1 core temperature so I decided to take a look at the CPU-Z reading. Did I get some weird CPU or is there another reason for this?

As far as I know, the 4250 is an onboard graphics card, which means it can't be upgraded. But the Gateway should be better than your old Sony overall... although the graphics card is pretty bad.

Generally, the Inspiron is for normal users. The Studio series is geared towards entertainment (watching movies, etc). The XPS line is more for gamers.

The only that sucks is nobody really uses Solidworks outside of school. Most people use Pro/E. I think our university offers a course on it... but it's not offered every semester and it's only an elective. They should probably make it part of the required course list.

My Dell Inspiron 9300 has lasted me over 5 years. I haven't had any major issues that didn't arise from my use (gaming = keyboard and palmrest wear). I bought mine with the CompleteCare 3 year (now called the Advanced service). I probably didn't need to buy it, but it gave me some peace of mind...
