Yup, you can install Windows using that disc. However you still needadditional license keys to make it a valid (or more importantly, legal). The one on your laptop will work for the laptop (assuming you got the disc with that laptop) but not desktop.

I wouldn't call this circumventing copyright, but regional restrictions. Publishers basically have to pay fee's to have their show available in countries and regions, and many American production networks dont bother doing so outside North America where all their viewerbase (that they know of)...

Any professional video editing software can control the length of a video down to the exact frame. Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. I know the Adobe suite has a 30day trial so you dont have to spend cash at all.

There are Haswell laptops out now, by the time 2015 rolls around there will be Broadwell chips and Skylake will be poised to release. At the very least there will be performance upgrades just from the new architecture's even in comparative SKU's (Haswell i3 vs Skylake i3).

Graphics will be better, while consuming less power. Far as numbers go, its impossible to know. But that prediction will pretty much always hold true.
