Iv'e watched as a Tv tech, reading the schematic measured voltages. When they were low he added capacitance in parallel. If the voltage was good he replaced that cap. he did this for about 8 caps. Tv lasted for two years before problem was back. The trick is getting the schematic.

Be carefull RGB is Not component, verify that rgb from the dvd is connected to the rgb inputs on the TV. Where is the surround sound system getting it's input from?

Is 16:9 selected in both the TV and cable box. TV has greyed out selections, what about cable box?

You have to eliminate the possibilites. Remove a device from the link one at a time until problem goe away or go from the cable to TV and start adding devices until problem returns. Don't assume the cables are good either. Or take HTPC direct etc....

You've connected VGA output to a VGA input on the TV? Video from computer should be set to Tv's max resolution @ 60hz. Check the Tv's set up menu for any special pc settings. Whats the sony model number? which computer/video card do you have?
