I would use a damp cloth to get rid of it. You could also remove the individual key by prising it off carefully, and then cleaning it. Make sure the key(s) are dry before putting it back on the keyboard though.

Maybe the problem are the batteries themselves, how old are they both? My macbook began shutting off randomly (even with the power cable constantly connected, and charge at 100%) when the battery became too old. Buying a new battery fixed this problem for me.
