    Depends on what you want to do. Portability? Macbook. Casual gaming? XPS 15. Bare in mind I'd prefer the Macbook over the XPS, it is likely more powerful for your daily normal usage and not gaming intensive.

    You just want to be checking whether it is fully functional, just use it for an hour or so. Then you can try the stress test on the CPU and GPU. If you want to feel safe test your memory as well. Download some games and have a go at it. My first PC, I didn't do any test and it was all good...

    What are the price of those two? On the look of it, the Lenovo is better for gaming, it has a better card wih lower resolution which would give you more ideal FPS. On the other hand, HP have a Full HD screen which results in better quality. Have a look at these two...

    I you are not gaming, no reason to get a Blade. The Pro have a huge screen display output which suits for things like CAD and Adobe, plus it is travel friendly(Both are travel friendly actually). A VMWare isn't that hard to do anyway.
