Im looking to spend around 1000 , can go a little more if it is a big upgrade. Use will be web surfing, maybe flash gaming.

Hmm, well everything I've heard about the Toshiba Chromebook2 has said it's pretty good quality at about $330. So that's an option if you're willing.

In the windows world, your use case doesn't suggest you need discrete 3D graphics for gaming. How about something like this:

has an SSD, really nice sharp screen, touchscreen, fast Core i5, decent battery life, usable in tent mode (really hand on airplanes), etc. My wife has something similar from HP and she loves it. integrated GPU should be more than capable at 1080p.

for websurfing and flash gaming, why waste $1000 on a laptop. You could probably get away with using a good chromebook. If you really want windows, go for something with an SSD. Your use case isn't very demanding but an SSD will really improve your user experience (fast boot, fast app load times)

Quality is key for me and Chromebooks have sucked in my past experiences. We also will use it as a media player.
