[citation][nom]tmshdw[/nom]Apple has done it again making tech useable in everyday life.[/citation]

Well, you missed a few words, "Apple has done it again making Apple product tech useable in everyday life just like other company's products that Apple fans don't use and somehow don't notice have the same or enhanced versions of the same features. (and extrapolating this 'first' for Apple as first for the whole world)"

[citation][nom]afrobacon[/nom]Sorry, I don't buy hardware that promotes suicide *cough*Foxconn*cough*.[/citation]
You realize there is a crap load of stuff that Foxconn makes that is very highly likely sitting on your motherboard right now. I even saw a Foxconn logo on my DVI out on my graphics card. Think before you speak- oh and this is coming from an Apple hater by the way.

1 - Sprint - Not much use for those outside the US, which is a much bigger market, and even in the US you still have Srint with a good plan on a better handset like the Galaxy S2.

2 - Camera - Joking right? 16mp on the way with Samsung, lenses have been awesome with Sony and Nokia for years.

3 - Siri - As John McEnroe would say "You cannot be Sirious", other smartphones have had this kind of voice control without shouting it from the rooftops like the caveman who just discovered fire, even WP7 allows a level of voice activation but like the man said, people won't use it all the time, I just cringe at the thought of all the Mactards who will be chunnering to their phone to send a voice text to another Mactard saying nothing more productive than "this is cool". Saying it is a must-have feature is wrong, it is the only feature of worth and by itself is pretty piss-poor.

After the HP Opinion piece I've been wondering if Wolfgang is intentionally trolling, or just stupid.

You see, on the HP article, I was heavily leaning toward the 'Stupid', but on this one feels more like a blatant Troll attempt. So, I'm not sure about how I should take Wolfgang anymore.

He intentionally phrases several sentences as if he was unaware of blatantly obvious existing tech and software (N8, Vlingo, Siris' past as an iPhone app, Google Voice, current dual core Android smartphone performance, similar SOCs already in the market, etc). Then drops in Apple advertising statements that are clearly misleading.... and... overall, I'm just sitting here going... "Nobody's THIS stupid, right? Right?.... therefore.... he must be a troll?"

But I'm agonizing over it a little. I don't know!!! It's really on the borderline, and I'm not sure yet.

[citation][nom]AbdullahG[/nom]...My close friend has one. How is he an idiot? He never owned a phone in HS. He owned several Android phones through college, but they all just stopped working for him...[/citation]
You have to plug them in a charge them, you know. They don't just pick up power from the air...

[citation][nom]subaru41[/nom]3 reasons why you should buy.1. 3.5 inch screen, lol2. No 4G Internet, lol3. Still no Adobe Flash, lolThe only people that buy the Apple inferior phone, I mean iPhone, is because they are ignorant, uneducated people that like to use a kids phone. They obviously know nothing about android, or upcoming Google Ice cream. 4 reasons why not to buy - Nexus Prime, Samsung Hercules, Galaxy S II, HTC Amaze. This is not including all the other great phones coming out. Has apple ever heard of options, instead of the same crappy feel of the iPhone 4 that they want to have a 2 year shelf life.[/citation]

I just want to point out the humor of calling someone else's phone a "kid phone", then mentioning google "ice cream".

I find it illuminating that someone would call all people who use apple products "mactards" - Close minded hatred for people you don't know? Should we gas them all? Where does this hate come from? Do you own stock in Google? lol

1. Considering we (The US) have been dealing with AT&T's horrible service vs Verizon's charge raping for decent service, an additional carrier is a good thing.

2. 16mp doesn't mean much unless you are backing it up with fantastic optics and better technology to take pictures. If you're going to state specs then every month a new phone comes out with a better specification.

3. Considering you have no first hand experience, why are you commenting on it's performance? Siri is a spin off a DARPA project to create cognitive software that adapts to the user. 8 years later its' being released to the public. Any of Apple's competitors could have purchased it but they didn't... Until reviews come out it's ridiculous for people to say it's horrible.

[citation][nom]sundragon[/nom]Hi cupcake,Siri is derived from military software... It was a DARPA funded project to create a personalized assistant known as PAL around 2003...It was an attempt to create software with cognitive ability that adapts to the user.It didn't work exactly as they wanted and as most great technology is usually spun off military innovation such as (CDMA, noise cancelling microphones, radar) - in 2008 they created Siri...So if that ain't cool enough for you then please go write something that will wow us...[/citation]
Disposable diapers were an invention from the space race.
Well space rockets and moonlandings and astronauts are all cool right, so that means a shitty old diaper is too?

Linking DARPA to Siri does not make Siri cool, linking them to make it seem that way is flawed logic.

Yup, everyone is clueless until they pick up an Android device. The whole planet is full of morons... Really?

Just because people choose not to mess with their OS, root, etc they are morons?
Your mechanic could say the same thing about everyone who drives a car and can't fix their own brakes... I could make analogies like this all day long but it's a choice which thus far has been a good business model thus far.

Google decided to make a competitor to Apple's iOS which is great, but you act like you hand coded Android OS yourself...

Back on topic...

The discussion is relatively academic, the iPhones success has never rested on its actual technological prowess but rather the hype machine and the buzz created as word spreads.

Other Macfans have described Apple not as a brand but a lifestyle choice, picked for its fashion statement rather than as a functional utilitarian device.

The most obvious expression of this has been the white "mug-me" headphones that people wear, even though the actual sound quality and build quailty from them is awful and any audiophile worth his carrots would spend a few dollars on a good set of Bose, Skullcandy, Sennheiser or Sony.

Apple stock dropped 5% after the 4S was revealed meaning the collective psychology that makes up the perception that "bad product made fashionable means good product" has fallen flat on its face. There is only so far you can push an incremental upgrade whilst your conpetitors are already miles ahead and screaming away further with each passing day and stockholders will demand that Apple raise the bar and actually release an amazing product.

If it has a dual core it needs to have the highest mhz rating or benchmarks showing highest performance.
If it has a camera, good lenses ad fast shooting or not it needs to be backed up with an industry equaling or new industry best MP rating, otherwise the lenses are just making up the cheapness of hashing out 3 year old camera tech.
Expandable memory, if people really want 64Gb on a phone then stop raping them with inbuilt for the massive upsell premium, let them put a microSD card inside, but thatwon't do because people won't buy their microSD card from Apple and the only person that pleases is the stockholder, not the customers.
Swappable battery, same arguement as above, won't always buy it from Apple and the only person that pleases is the stockholder, not the customers.
Screen size, for the iPhone to claim to be an industry leader we would expect a minimum 4" screen but keeping the measly 3.5" in order to maintain pixel density is insane, we want bigger screens so just increase the resolution so you don't waste the Retina label.

These are thing that should have been done and been pushed out as the iPhone 5, and maybe they will do these for the next release, but by then the hardware from rivals such as Nokia, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc will have advance to the next level, over the hills and far away.

Another Apple product announced so all the trolls come out from under their bridges and flock to comment sections and forums across the internet. It always makes me wonder why people flock to boards to protect their favorite tech of the day as if it will matter in the grand scheme of things. Besides, it isn't as if you're going to change someone's mind here.
