I'm having some problems running my laptop and wondered what would be a decent score for this laptop on 3dmark06.

lappy is:

2Ghz P-M with Go 7800GTX 256mb

I actually get around 2900 mark! I'm guessing this isn't right!?

Set at what resolution and "extended feature set"? 3D Mark has so many options to make it harder for the system that most people use the lowest setting and striped down to no features to get super high scores. 2900 is probably about right since you only have a Pentium-M in there if you're trying to crank out at a high resolution with everything turned on.

Here's different resolutions and scores for a 7900 GTX with 256 MB

The Pentium-M "Dothan" is actually a fairly powerful CPU. It has a large L2 cache, as well as running in the 65nm process field.
To be technical, it's nearly doubly equivalent to a P4 counterpart ... so 4.26GHz if he's running the 2.13 Pentium-M. More roughly ~4.0GHz however, according to some benchmarks.
It's a very innovative mobile CPU.

I got 4317 marks in 3DMark05. My video card is the GeForce Go 6800 256MB. Don't know about 3DMark06, but your score seems low.
Make sure you have the most up to date driver for it ... if the drivers are filtered through a distributor like Gateway, you'd want to download from their site ... not NVIDIA's.

Update:

I got the heatsink re-fitted as it was over heating, I did a clean install of windows and updated to the latest drivers and now I get on 3Dmark 05 - 6822.

Which pretty much averages this type of system I have.

Supergoal. I'm glad you got it worked out. I actually made a mistake and was comparing your score to a 3DMark'06 result which is far lower.

If anyone is interested the difference looks like this:

About 48% less 3DMark score just going from '05 to '06.

I ran it with all options turned on at 1024x768 res. for an easy res. to compare. =)

Do a 3dmark 2005 on your laptop.
roughly 9400 marks on the M9700

also Do a 3dmark 2006 on your laptop.
roughly 8700 marks on the M9700
**(it lowers to around 6100 marks when @ 1440x900)
