My GI 450I reciever seems to have bitten the dust and lately I have
been trying to find a good deal on a DSR-920 on ebay and today I saw
one that was going to close in a matter of minutes, I went ahead and
bid and won it for around 100.00. It had a label on the back that
stated "Field Test Unit"

What does this mean?? Should I have passed on it??

Thanks in advance for the info.

It probably means that it was one of the original 4DTV Field Test units, which makes
it one of the 1st 4DTV's produced.

The only possible problem with this is that the unit would be fairly old. You may want
to pay the price to have the unit's battery replaced and have the seller ship the unit
to ATS electronics for a battery replacement. ATS could then ship to you. If the
battery goes dead the unit will lose its ID and could not be used to receive
subscription programming and it would not receive the IPG.

Other than that the receiver would be the same as any other DSR-920.

Thanks for the fast reply : )

I guess I should have passed on this one.. I'll have to see what
happens.. If the battery has been dead for too long, I guess I can use
it as a dish positioner for my FTA receiver.

according to this picture, it looks like the case has been opened:

If the battery has been dead at all it has lost its unit ID.

I still suggest going through ATS to have them check to see if the ID is still valid
and change the battery if it is.

can the serial no. of the 920 tell you the age of the unit? .

Just to let you know that I got the 920 in and the ID is still intact.
The battery is still good and measured the correct voltage. Everything
works and I ordered a remote today. Getting tired of programming it
from the front panel <g>

Thanks again.
