There are laptop out there that use the SB-E desktop cpu and comes with 4 RAM slot and when the very expensive 16GB SODIMM is available, 64GB RAM on a laptop is possible:

alright, so in the back of my mind I was correct in my first statement just couldn't remember where it came from, haha.
but the question still stands, what could one possibly need 64gb of ram for? That's like server grade amounts of ram and surely you don't want to be running a server on a laptop?

First question that popped into my mind was already asked by AntiZig: Why would you need 64GB of RAM?
We teach software products and going on site with portable HDD and wait for students to copy the 20Gb files is a waste of time.
We're thinking having a laptop+access point so they can simply remote into the VMs hosted in HyperV
