7200 rpm HDD 500 GB + 16 GB SSD or 256GB SSD

Hi,

I am considering to buy a Lenovo ThinkPad S440 Touch with an Intel core i7 - 4500U CPU and 8 GB of SDRAM.
However, I don't know which configuration to choose for the hard drive:
- SSD 256 GB
- HDD 7200 rpm 500 GB + SSD 16 GB

I will use it for my work (very heavy excel files, Matlab computing, occasionnaly some CAO (catia V6)...) and my leisures (strategy games and Bioshock Infinite if possible).

Which one is the more suitable for me ? And which one can be easily upgraded ?

I guessing the 16GB SSD is acting as a cache and creating a hybrid. If so, I would do that except bigger. 500GB will fill quickly.
